BBC backstage on AJAX startpages

Having written different versions of the "What's on now/next" gadget/module for different AJAX start pages, I took some screenshots to compare:

Google adds Chat features to Gmail

When logging into gmail this morning, I noticed a new "Chats" folder... it seems Google are integrating their Google Talk client into the Gmail interface. Looks very promising, although at the moment the only thing available is an option to save chat history in the "Chats" folder, but coming next (see title link) is complete integration of the Google talk client via something called "quick contacts", which appears to add the client functionality (e.g. start chats, set status message etc.) right in the Gmail interface.

I've seem something similar in Microsoft's live.com presentations, but despite being a member of live.com and the Live Messenger beta program, I haven't seen the integration between web and chat client yet. No doubt it will come though...

OpenLaszlo on mobile phones

Jim Grandy from Laszlo Systems writes about getting an Openlaszlo app to work on a Nokia 6680, using the latest Flash Lite 2 release from Macromedia. Very cool!
