Vamsi Sistla On The Coming Convergence of IM and VoIP
From Get Real:
Millions of people use the big IM services. Some use their voice capabilities. But the experience is pretty horrible. You have to sit at a computer, use a microphone and speak loudly. And it goes over the public Internet, so quality is poor and security is suspect. Why aren't they doing anything about it? They have an established presence: why don't they buy out a Vonage, an Avaya or a Voiceglo, integrate their technology and start offering packages to existing and new subscribers? Isn't that a huge revenue opportunity for them?

Same Number Text & Voice Voting
From 160characters.org:
Infrastructure vendor Telsis is to create a one-number text and voice voting system for Swedish telco Telia.
The move will increase choice for programme makers, event organisers and end-users, and grow revenues still further, says Telia mass calling product manager Stewe Wahlström. "We've already talked to some of our larger broadcast customers about SMS and they're very excited."
"At the moment, if they want to offer viewers simultaneous voice and SMS response they have to work with two different suppliers and show two different numbers on screen. That's complicated for them and complicated for the public. The enhancements to MegaCall will mean one deal, one system and a single response number for both text and voice. We're expecting combined voice and text to deliver significant growth in audience participation and revenues."

Leave a digital present under the Tate Britain Christmas tree
You can leave a digitial present (a text, photo, movie etc.) with this year's Christmas tree at the Tate Britain - visitors can interact with the tree in the gallery via their mobile phone (using Bluetooth), or send a text or file via email/web.
It doesn't say anything about being able to send an SMS to the tree, which seems a shame, considering how easy that would be to implement..
More info at the Tate Britain website (link above), instructions and a nice interface to upload a present via the web also available here.
