Instant Rewards for Survey participants in Second Life

I was thinking about incentivising survey participants in virtual worlds, and looking at Second Life in particular, it couldn't be easier!
It took me about 5 minutes to add instant payment of an incentive to my prototype survey object, so when a respondent completes the survey, they are given the incentive payment on the spot - in my example I'm giving L$1 (1 Linden dollar) to the avatar after he/she answers the final question in the survey.

So the survey object can automatically handle inviting passing avatars, running the survey itself through the chat interface, and paying the respondent when he's done... I imagine this is a hell of a lot easier than managing incentive payments in real life.

You can read more background info on the Second Life survey prototype in my original post, or come and visit yourself - the object can be found on my island in Second Life (slurl). You'll even get paid for doing the demo survey! :-)

The growth of surveys in SL will be an important part of the growth of SL. I run a company that builds out spaces in SL for RL clients, and I know that pursuing customers leads to many questions about the world. Currently there are very few companies actively trying to understand the community. I hope this goes well for you, as I believe it will be helpful to all who make their living in SL.

My market research company, GEM Research Solutions, runs a focus group facility on Second Life called the iAsk Center. We have regularly scheduled Thrusday night groups on general topics and use the facility at other times for client projects. We've been doing this since early 2007. We have prepared a report on our findings for the first half of 2007. Come visit us. The iAsk Center is on Xenia Island. www.iaskcenter.com
