mobile social software applications

There's an interesting list of mobile social software applications at elastic space

One example, http://www.mamjam.com, looks very interesting - a location-based chat application via SMS. Which makes me wonder yet again why no-one seems to have started thinking about taking advantage of the location aspect for survey data collection (e.g. ask people questions when they enter a certain location like a museum, shop, airport etc..). Privacy concerns loom large here, of course, and maybe this is the main hindrance for doing something like this in practice - opting-in processes etc. making the whole thing too complex?
